WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU NOTICE TERMITE ACTIVITY

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU NOTICE TERMITE ACTIVITY
Share:
Termites won’t give you any kind of warning before they infest your home; if they did, we could easily prevent them; but, sadly, this is not the case. In fact, termites are known to invade homes for long periods of times without being noticed at all and are often only discovered when it is too late.

Summer has officially begun and if you haven’t already taken preventative action against termites, now is the time! If termites have invaded your home or you believe they have, there are a variety of signs that homeowners should be on the lookout for; these signs can be almost undetectable, so it is important to pay very close attention when searching for them.

Signs You May Have a Termite Infestation

Termite Swarmers

If you see a termite swarm outside your home, there is most likely an active termite colony nearby, whereas, if you are spotting these termite swarmers indoors, you are probably already dealing with an active infestation in your home. It is never a good sign to spot discarded swarmer wings around the inside or the outside your home; swarmer termites only discard their wings when they have found a new structure to invade and set up a colony.

Mud Tubes

Another sign that termites have invaded your property is finding mud tubes around the exterior of your home. Termites use these tunnels to get to their food source and back to their nest.

Wood Damage

Lastly, noticing wood damage to your home is a telltale sign of a termite problem. They will feed on the wooden foundation of your home, almost to the point of hollowing it out, making it dangerous to live in. Termite damage is very expensive, stressful, and hard to fix; in fact, termites cause over 5 billion dollars in damages in the United States each year! It’s very important to take action as soon as you start to notice any of these signs.

If you are one of the many people are dealing with a termite infestation or just want to ensure that you’re protected from termites before they cause any expensive structural damage to your home, contact your local pest control company immediately!
