HOW TO GET RID OF SPIDERS

Written by Viking Pest Control | June 21, 2013

Spiders in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Maryland are a problem for almost all homeowners.   Common spiders can include the common house spider, the wolf spider and although rarely seen in the NJ, PA, DE, or MD area, we sometimes encounter the venomous brown recluse spider and the black widow spider. All of these spiders will enter your home looking for protection from the elements, an undisturbed area to spin a web and a supply of insects to eat. If your home has any gaps or areas that allow pests in and offers any of the things that spiders may be looking for, there is a very good chance you’ll see spiders inside your home.

What do these spiders look like? Here are some quick tips from the local spider control experts at Viking Pest Control to help you identify the common spiders found in NJ, PA, DE, and MD:

  • The common house spider is typically brown or gray and usually less than 1/3 of an inch long. They have long legs and will spin webs in dark and undisturbed areas of your home. They feed on small insects that they catch inside their webs.
  • The wolf spider is relatively large at 1.5 inches. They are brown or black in color with hairy bodies and legs; they look somewhat like the tarantulas that are native to more tropical regions. They don’t spin webs, but will hunt and feed on insects.
  • The brown recluse spider is brown as its name suggests and is usually just over half an inch long.  They have a dark fiddle-shaped marking on their backs and although they aren’t native to NJ, PA, DE, or MD they can be brought into any of the state. They will attack if provoked and their venomous bite may require medical attention.
  • The black widow spider is about 3/8 of an inch in diameter and they are shiny and black. They typically have a red hourglass marking on their backs.  They spin webs in dark and secluded areas inside your home. Their bites are painful and can be dangerous, especially to children and the elderly.

Pest control professionals, like Viking Pest Control, deal with spider infestations on a regular basis. These pests aren’t usually a problem for homeowners when only a few are present every summer, but when they start invading in large numbers, spider control service becomes necessary.  When you partner with Viking Pest Control, our services include a careful inspection completed by certified pest control technicians, which can determine your current pest problems and offer solutions to remedy the problem and keep it from returning.

If we find any of the common types of spiders in inside your home, we will treat for them and apply a protective barrier around the outside perimeter of your home to keep these spiders from returning.  Our yearly service plans offers spider control as well as other insect and rodent control services to protect your New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, or Eastern Shore of Maryland home from invading pests that cause stress, anxiety and can also be downright annoying.  If you are looking for carpenter ant control, bed bug control or termite control, these services are also offered by Viking Pest Control.
