Fall Cleaning Checklist

Written by Viking Pest Control | October 14, 2020

You probably know all about spring cleaning; it's an annual tradition that has deep roots in history and religion.

But that doesn't mean you should only do a deep clean once every year. In fact, it's best if you also do one half a year later in the fall.

What exactly should you do though, to make sure you're keeping your property at its best? Read on to get a basic fall cleaning checklist to follow this year.

Clean Out Your Garage

During the year, you've probably accumulated quite a lot of things. And because you're busy all the time, you've just shoved them into your garage.

Now, you have clutter everywhere. It may be so bad that you can't even park your car in there anymore.

Fall is a great time to clean out your garage, as you can get rid of all the junk before winter settles in. And while you're at it, take this time to also organize everything in there. After you're done sorting through everything, put every item back in an orderly fashion so it'll be easier to find later on. Less clutter also means less places for pests such as mice and spiders to hide and nest!

Look for Cracks and Holes

Go around your property and inspect it for any cracks or holes. Not only are these unsightly, but they'll also provide entryways for mice and other pests to enter during the fall and winter when the temperatures drop.

Depending on how bad they are, they might even compromise the structural integrity of your home. So make sure you take prompt action to patch these cracks and holes up.

Inspect Window Screens

You'll also want to inspect all your window screens to make sure they're all still intact. Broken ones will also let pests in, such as stink bugs.

Clean Your Kitchen Regularly

You should be doing this item on this fall house cleaning checklist all year long. The kitchen is where you probably drop morsels often. So if you don't clean this area regularly, then you're creating optimal conditions for pests to move in.

You need to make your property as unattractive as possible to pests so they won't be tempted to become an unwanted tenant. By eliminating as many food sources as possible, this will help fend off pests such as mice, rats, and cockroaches.

Vacuum Under All Furniture

You probably already regularly sweep, mop, and vacuum your floors. But do you actually get underneath your furniture? Probably not.

Use your fall cleaning time to lift and/or move each piece of furniture so you get everything that's made its way underneath. That way, you can ensure absolute cleanliness in your home.
